Easy Ways to Clear Space on MacOS and Boost Performance

Hey there, it’s Alex Turner from MacFix Guide. Today, I want to share some practical tips on how to clear storage on your macOS. Over time, our Macs can get cluttered with files we no longer need, which can slow down performance. The first step is to use the built-in Storage Management tool. Go to the Apple menu, select ‘About This Mac,’ then click on ‘Storage’ and ‘Manage.’ This tool provides recommendations on optimizing your storage, such as storing files in iCloud or emptying the trash automatically.

Another effective way to free up space is to delete old and large files. You can use the ‘Finder’ to search for large files by selecting ‘File’ > ‘Find,’ then set the search criteria to files larger than a specific size. Additionally, consider removing old downloads, duplicates, and cache files. Applications like ‘CleanMyMac’ can also help identify and remove unnecessary files, but make sure to review them before deletion.

Don’t forget about your email attachments and old iOS backups. These can take up a significant amount of space. In the ‘Mail’ app, you can delete large attachments, and in ‘Finder,’ you can navigate to ‘~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/’ to remove old backups. Also, regularly emptying the trash and deleting old iMessages can free up additional space.

Lastly, consider offloading unused apps and files to iCloud or an external drive. macOS has a feature called ‘Optimize Storage’ that can automatically remove watched movies and TV shows from your Mac. By following these steps, you can keep your Mac running smoothly and efficiently.
